Christmas is right around the corner now. Are you still not sure what to get for the writer in your life? Here are a few last-minute gift ideas for writers to help you out:

  • Gift Cards / Certificates - Easy, and they don't need to be shipped. Pick up a gift card for your writer's favorite book store, or an online book store like Amazon.com.
  • Office Supplies - If the writer in your life tends to fly through office supplies, consider stocking him or her up with basics like printer ink, pens, or notebooks.
  • Online Services - Do you have an avid blogger in your life? If so, a perfect gift idea might be a credit for domain names or Web hosting, a new premium site or blog template, or custom design services.
  • Books - You can't beat books as a gift idea for writers, whether it's a novel by their favorite author or a book to help them reach their writing goals. A few book ideas for freelance writers include The Renegade Writer, The Well-Fed Writer, and Writer's Market 2008.
  • A Rolodex (suggested by Misti Sandefur) - Help the writer in your life keep track of experts to interview, publishers, clients, and more.
  • Magazine Subscriptions - Give a gift that keeps on giving through the new year with a subscription to a magazine for writers. Depending on the type of writer and experience level, here are a few ideas: Writer's Digest, Poets & Writers Magazine, Editor & Publisher, Writer, and Freelance Success.

  1. Oh, thanks for the link 🙂 I’m one of those people who is thrilled to receive office supplies (I know, it’s weird), so this list feels perfect. I’d certainly love any of the things mentioned here. I think it’s important to note that a gift does not always have to cost money: if you know graphic design, you can offer help with logos, if you can design a website, you can help a writer with a new look, etc. The same goes for starving writers: we can offer others (either as a gift or as an exchange) what we do best: write

  2. Each Christmas when I lived at home my dad wouldn’t know what to put in my stocking, so I always got tons of office supplies and my mom would get mad thinking I hated it, I told them I liked getting my stocker stuff more than anything else, hahahaha.

  3. I must share that WP just told me I’m posting comments too quickly and to slow down, hahahaha – that is my laugh for the day.

  4. I went to repost — to the other post to correct my incorrect spelling – and it came up — with the WP icon — and said you’re commenting too quickly. Slow Down.

    NOT KIDDING.

  5. Now that Christmas is over, I was wondering if anybody got (or gave) any “writer” presents? I got a book I really wanted but that’s it. I don’t have any writers in my gift list, so I didn’t shop for anything related. 🙁
