A press kit, or media kit, as defined by Wikipedia is a pre-packaged set of promotional materials of a person, company, or organization distributed to members of the media for promotional use. They are often distributed to announce a release or for a news conference.
The materials in the release “introduce” the company, so in addition to media distribution, a press kit can be a valuable tool for introducing the company to new clients. Well-developed media kits showcase the company’s accomplishments, recap significant moments of its history and include any recent newsworthy events.
While some companies choose to create a bound booklet with all of this information inside, a media kit can be as simple as a folder, containing the company’s history, press releases, any news coverage the company has received recently, samples of the company’s work (or pictures of its products) and contact information.
