When "indie publishing" is discussed here at All Indie Publishing, we're talking about professional independent publishing. That means there's an entrepreneurial element as opposed to publishing just to see your name in print. You plan to make a serious go of it. You plan to make money with your books. You work with professionals to put out your best work possible.
You won't see many posts on print on demand (POD) publishing here, and we'll talk about why in a later post. Instead we'll focus more on a true professional path to getting your books in print -- not a path with no barriers to entry or one that immediately can tarnish your reputation and pit you against your target readers. That goes for both traditional print publishing and e-publishing.
While there's nothing "wrong" with choosing a POD publisher, I just want to make it clear up front that their use won't be actively promoted here in case that is the kind of self publishing resource you're looking for (unless POD companies appear in third party advertisements on the site -- these are contextual and not hand-picked by myself or any blog contributor and those ads do not represent personal recommendations). If you instead plan to treat your book as a business endeavor every step of the way, All Indie Publishing will be there right by your side.
Here are some of the specific topics you'll see covered here at All Indie Publishing:
- Writing your book
- Editing your book (and working with professional editors and proofreaders)
- Book production and design
- Self publishing news
- Book marketing and PR
- E-books / e-publishing
- Tools and resources for indie publishers
- Indie author interviews
- And more.
I hope you'll join us on the ride and share your indie publishing stories and tips. In the meantime, feel free to connect on Twitter @indiepublisher.
Jenn-are you intended to create an indie biz marketplace for freelance editors and the like on AIP? Juuuust wondering, and I know you’re a busy lady.
I’m glad to see that ebooks and epublishing are part of the mix, as those are a large part of my endeavors.
No, I have no intention of launching a marketplace here in the foreseeable future. I’m still trying to come up with a better back-end for the freelance marketplace, and frankly I don’t want to be in a position where I have to moderate ads on multiple sites (I wouldn’t want products advertised here that are completely contrary to the purpose of the site).
